GATESHEAD, UK.- Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art presents Erwin Wurm New Sculpture, on view through October 10, 2006. A fat house, a distorted truck and a stuffed sausage dog that appears to have swallowed a brick, all form part of a new show at BALTIC. The exhibition is by one of Austria’s leading artists - Erwin Wurm. Embracing the absurd, Wurm invites us to consider different possibilities. He creates a distance between us and the everyday, asking for a re-examination of the world we inhabit and everyday things we take for granted. He plays with perception, and on upsetting established meanings. Familiar objects overcome materiality and utility to become emblematic and free ranging in their possible significance and use.

Agbar Tower _ Barcelona

Torre Agbar

Completed in July 2005, the unique structure known as Torre Agbar (Agbar Tower) is the newest sensation in the Barcelona skyline. Though its interesting shape and design was originally met with much dissension, the unusual building has now become dear to the hearts of most Barcelona citizens.
The new headquarters for Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar), the municipal water company, Torre Agbar rises into the sky at 34 stories tall and 142 meters (466 feet) in height. Designed by Frenchman Jean Nouvel, the architect believes that the tower is “a distant echo of old Catalan obsessions, carried on the winds that blow in from Montserrat.” Often referred to as a geyser, Torre Agbar was inspired by the architectural legacy of Spain’s Antoni Gaudi.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Commentary

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Commentary

The new Guggenheim Museum Bilbao by Frank Gehry was probably the most often mentioned new building of 1998 and 1999 in architecture circles. The composition continues a curvaceous, free-form sculptural style that has become a Gehry signature. The abstract, free-form components of this style were present in the early Gehry House, and a similarly sleek curvaceous cladding was displayed in the sculptural fish of the Fishdance Restaurant.
